Time’s Up events, This weekend!!

Reinventing the Wheel, and discussion with Steve McMaster of Time’s Up!
Thursday, July 9th, 6 p.m.
Atlantic Gallery, 135 West 29th Street

‘Reinventing the Wheel’ will begin with the moving and rarely screened experimental film ‘FIETSEN; (Cyclists 1965) by Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken as he observes cyclists (and other means of transport) in Amsterdam, moving over the bridges on the canals. A lively discussion about the road ahead will follow with a lively discussion with transit experts including Steve McMaster of Time’s Up! and representatives from the NYC Department of Transportation and Transportation Alternatives.

1. BROOKLYN CRITICAL MASS
Friday, July 10th, 7 p.m.
Grand Army Plaza, the northern entrance of Prospect Park where Flatbush Ave., Eastern Pkwy, Union St. and Prospect Park West intersect and Brooklyn Side of the Williamsburg Bridge

Did you know that July 2009 is the five-year anniversary of Brooklyn Critical Mass?!

Critical Mass is a monthly celebration of bicycles and other nonpolluting means of transportation, exercising our right to the road. Critical Mass is a movement, not an organization; no two riders participate for exactly the same reason. New York City’s first Critical Mass was in 1993.

The Cyclone Ride goes to Coney Island Amusement Park (Brooklyn) from Manhattan. We should get there just in time for the fireworks! This is a casual ride at a relaxed pace.
Bring locks as we plan to lock up and ride the rides. Bring money for food and amusements, and a swimsuit if you plan to hit the waves. We usually spend about an hour and a half in the park, on the beach (and in the water!), on the boardwalk, at Nathan’s, and everyone has a GREAT time! Some people return on the subway, and others ride back at a faster pace.

4. TIME’S UP! MECHANICS AT WILLIAMSBURG WALKS
Saturday, July 11th, 12 noon- 7 p.m.
North 7th and Bedford, Brooklyn

The Time’s Up! Mechanics will be tabling all day Saturday as part of the final Williamsburg Walks event in Brooklyn. The Co-op mechanics will be conducting free bike repair lessons, safety checks, and answering any bike related questions throughout the day. Come by and say hi!
This exciting community celebration is promoting a re-imagination of public space by shutting down Bedford Avenue to car traffic from North 4th to North 9th streets. Local merchants, community groups, musicians and artists can be found, using the reclaimed space for a greater purpose than just automobile traffic.
