It’s great that so many bike lanes are being developed. It’s great that the Hudson Greenway is progressing, primarily to be used by bike riders. It’s great that Governor’s Island is being developed as a bike-rider’s destination. I don’t even mind my tax money being used for this. In fact, I’m all for it. It’s horrible and shocking, however, that so many bikers simply refuse to acknowledge, let alone obey, the biker traffic signals along the west side of Manhattan. The signals exist for biker safety as well as to allow for traffic flow of commuter buses, taxis and official vehicles. Get with it. I’d love to see biking advocates take on the arrogant (unwilling to follow signals) and the stupid (unwilling to wear helmets). Failure to do so will only invite unwanted enforcement.
