New Amsterdam Bike Slam

All summer, Roos Kouwehoven has been telling me about great events that NY400 has been doing as part of a melding of old world Amsterdam and New York. Celebrating 400 years of Dutch influence and Netherlands friendship, especially for such amazing inventions as the bicycle.

Now its time for the New Amsterdam Bike Slam

Next week from the 10th until the 13th (during the NY400 week) the Amsterdam Cycling to Sustainability is organising the New Amsterdam Bike slam. Spread over four days, this event is a live design battle, where two teams of pioneering Dutch and American planners & designers present their visions to bring New York City cycling up to the level of the Netherlands, the only country with more bikes than people. Besides the battle the event includes a dance party and a world-class transportation summit as well.

If you are interested in forming a team, check out the schedule:

–Thursday, Sept 10th
New Amsterdam Bike Slam teams meet at NYU’s Puck Building, take a bicycle tour of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, and start formulating their plans. Not open to the public.
