Short blurb on Tour de Queens-1,500 riders!

MY FOX NY has a short little blurb on Sunday’s Tour de Queens:

The Tour de France may be going on across the ocean but in New York the Tour de Queens is the bike tour of record.

The tour has become the largest cycling event in Queens and welcomes cyclists of all skill levels.

The first Tour de Queens in 2008 hosted 500 cyclists. This year’s tour boasted more than 1,500 participants and took riders on a leisurely 18-mile bike tour of northeast Queens, exploring Flushing, Bayside, Oakland Gardens, Little Neck, Queens Village and Fresh Meadows. Riders were treated to a rest stop at the Queens County Farm Museum, a working farm in New York City.

“The Tour de Queens is all about celebrating the strides we’re making towards a more bike-friendly borough,” says David Dubovsky, Chair of Transportation Alternatives’ Queens Committee. “Where else in New York City can you bike from a two-time World’s Fair ground to a working urban farm–all in one morning?”
