RACE WITH THE PROS IN 7.1 MILE STORM KING “CANNIBAL”
Join cycling star Evelyn Stevens for individual time trials in Hudson
Sunday, Oct. 10th, 9 AM to 12 PM
Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., near Storm King State Park
Test your racing stripes on the Hudson Valley’s Storm King Highway, a
twisting two-lane road that will be closed to traffic for the first-ever
Storm King “Cannibal.” Racers will be timed, one by one, on a 7.1 mile
course with rolling hills, hairpin turns and spectacular views of the
Hudson River. The Storm King Cannibal is named after five-time Tour de
France winner Eddy “The Cannibal” Merckx and is a licensed USA Cycling
event, with photo-finish timing. Wall Street banker-turned-cycling champ
Evelyn Stevens will participate, with other cycling pros.
“It’s a rare opportunity to experience a real European-style time
trial,” said Race Director John Eustice, founder of Sparta Cycling, a
company in Manhattan that promotes professional cycling events. “The
course is reminiscent of a stage in the south of France-it’s about bike
handling skill and deep fitness.”
After the time trial, Transportation Alternatives will lead a 34-mile
ride through Harriman State Park followed by a luncheon near Anthony’s
Nose in Garrison, N.Y. The social ride and luncheon are open to cyclists
who donate $250 or more, with proceeds benefiting Transportation
Alternatives and its advocacy work for safer cycling and improved
cycling infrastructure in greater New York City. The day-long
fundraising event is called the Gran Fondo, after the Italian long
distance cycling tradition.
“This is a super fun way to support vital bike advocacy campaigns that
are making it safer for New Yorkers to ride,” says ride leader Paul
Steely White, executive director of Transportation Alternatives.
