Time’s Up events

3/2/11-March Madness
Well it’s still cold out but Time’s Up is going to start heating things up with a whole ton of great bike rides and events.

***************
Recap:
Big shout out to Geoff and Keegan for the inaugural Time’s Up Radio hour on the Radio Hive Collective.
This show is going to be Sunday Nights from 10pm-11pm promoting Time’s Up events and talking about the pressing issues around bikes and the environment.
You can hear the archived show (2/27/11) and listen to upcoming shows here,

www.radiohive.org/timeupcollective.

Their first show featured Time’s Up volunteer Mellow Yellow live from San Francisco bringing the West Coast to the East. The hosts discussed the differences of Critical masses, reports backs and past experiences. They also talked a bit about the NYPD crackdown and gave some excellent tips on the laws in NYC for cyclists.
They don’t have a specific email for the show yet but they are looking for feedback and suggestions. You can drop them a line at: disorganizecm@gmail.com

First Friday Ride is a new monthly celebration of pollution-free transportation, creating fun, safer streets for human beings! A fun and inclusive group bicycle ride through the streets of New York City at a leisurely pace. Route to be determined by participants. Participants are encouraged to stay close together for increased safety. Courteous behavior towards pedestrians and other road-users also encouraged.
Bring lights and bells. No bike needed but highly recommended. Skaters or joggers will be joyfully accepted. Come with your love and creativity to spaces usually dominated by motor vehicles by dressing up, bringing music or snacks to share. A real fun way to build real community!

3. FREEDOM RIDE
Saturday, March 5th, 2:00pm
Washington Square Park-Manhattan-Under the Arch

On the 50th Anniversary of the original Freedom Rides, people the world over are demanding their human, civil and economic rights. This Saturday, come join us as we ride for freedom from fear for our personal safety, freedom from law enforcement’s indifference, and freedom to stand up for the rights of cyclists in NYC and everywhere else. The celebratory ride will include speak-outs, education, music and fun!

4. BROOKLYN CRITICAL MASS
Friday, March 11th, 7:00pm (Second Friday of the Month)
Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park Brooklyn and Brooklyn Side of the Williamsburg Bridge.

Critical Mass is a monthly celebration of bicycles and other nonpolluting means of transportation,
exercising our right to the road. Critical Mass is a movement, not an organization; no two riders participate for exactly the same reason. Brooklyn Critical Mass started rolling in 2004.
Second Friday of every month, 7:00 p.m., meeting at Grand Army Plaza. Come out and join Critical Mass in Brooklyn. Celebrate cycling, and assert your right to the road — Brooklyn style!

5. PROSPECT PARK MOONLIGHT RIDE
Saturday,March 12th, 9:00pm

Join us as we discover Prospect Park at night. Prospect Park is a 526-acre urban oasis located in the heart of Brooklyn.
The Prospect Park Moonlight Ride is opened to bikers and skilled skaters. Meet at 9 p.m., Grand Army Plaza, on the second Saturday of the month, every month. This is a safe, peaceful ride that visits many of the little-known treasures the park has to offer. (There is also a Central Park Moonlight Ride.)
Rain at 8:45 pm cancels the ride, period. Snow is good!!!
If you want to race, this is NOT the ride for you. The ride is at night, and it gets dark amongst all the trees in Prospect Park, so bring your favorite bike — the one with lights.
Grand Army Plaza is at the northern entrance of Prospect Park where Flatbush Ave., Eastern Pkwy, Union St. and Prospect Park West all intersect.
