WNYC’s ticketing crowdsourcing results

WNYC did some crowdsourcing to gather information about cyclists receiving tickets. They’ve created a map based on reports sent in by those ticketed.

Reporter Alex Goldmark recently posted results of the NYPD’s landmark ticket blitz and the information gathered.

Lawyers speak out on NYPD crackdown

Here is a letter by lawyers Gideon Oliver, David B. Rankin and Steve Vaccaro on the current worsening situation between the NYPD and NYC cyclists. This is also an excellent timeline of the recent history of legal affairs and the crackdown on the biking community.

Class Action against NYPD crackdown against cyclists with no class.

The law firms of Oliver & Oliver and Rankin & Taylor, citywide defenders of civil liberties and bicyclists rights are now bringing a class action lawsuit against the NYPD. According to Gothamist the crackdown on cyclists by the police is riddled with false charges to the point where the cops aren’t even sure of [...]

Bikelash round up

Dateline 3/24/11. Our old pal the Prospect Park West Bike lane is still blowing up the news like the crazed tweets of Martin Sheen’s son, well maybe not that popular. (Charlie Sheen does have 3,141,447 followers on twitter.)

WNYC’s Brian Lehrer couldn’t resist the opportunity since the cover spread in NY Magazine. Yesterday [...]

Unicyclists gets two tickets for one wheel.

Unicyclists are people too and shouldn’t be harassed by the ignorant NYPD who can’t tell a helmet law from night stick. Here is some more ridiculousness from our city that should be encouraging non-polluting forms of transportation.

Crackdown update

Here are the latest developments in the NYPD’s crackdown on cyclists.

On my way into work today I read a fairly horrifying tweet…

Can this be? $270.00? Right in my neighborhood?

Recently, in the dead of winter, when bicycles are prevailing even with un-plowed streets and cars being abandon during the snowpocolypse, [...]

Making connections, NYPD’s love of cyclists.

A little bit of connecting the dots here.

As devoted NYC cyclists, we’ve had a long history of battling the NYPD with our monthly critical mass rides, where law enforcement have tried everything in their power to stop the rides from happening.

This finally culminated in a parade law which requires more than [...]

Critical Mass Today

NYC’s critical mass has taken a serious blow over the years. It’s now some sort of ridiculous stand off between the NYPD who won’t back down and a few loyal riders who are brave enough to come out. Last month (June) was no different.

Here is a video of the police blocking the [...]

NYPD loves cyclists…NOT

Hard to believe but the NYPD did it again. Another shinning example of the police’s blatant disregard for cyclists in NYC. You’ve probably already seen this by now but NYPD officer Louis Ramos, was charged with assault, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident after hitting a 61 year old man in [...]

Warriors screening Saturday

Yesterday was the second day of festivities for this year’s bicycle film festival which also happens to be the 10 year anniversary of bike movie mayhem. Thursday was the opening of the joy ride art show which is becoming a festival tradition. Artists from around the world show off paintings, photographs and sculpture all [...]
